WV Abruptly Closes Clothing Allowance Program

Despite the surplus West Virginia has, the state’s school Clothing Allowance Program—which allows a $200 voucher to buy clothing before the school year starts—was abruptly closed after just one week due to monies running out.  This leaves 52,000 children who applied without assistance.  State Treasurer Larry Pack issued a statement that it is outrageous and unacceptable and Mineral County Delegate Gary Howell would also like answers…

“The legislature didn’t cut this program, they actually increased overall TANF’s funding.  The administration needs to explain why the school clothing money ran out in seven days.”
