WV Dems Vote Against Human Trafficking Bill
Kathy Cornwell has spent over 40 years in local media, starting her career with an internship at WCBC in the late 1980s. After graduating from Frostburg State University, she worked extensively in cable television advertising and programming with Comcast. From 2002 to 2005, she was married to WCBC's Jim Robey. Kathy returned to the News Department at WCBC in 2023. She lives in Cumberland with her husband, retired radio station manager Rich Cornwell.
All Democrats in the West Virginia House recently voted against HB4433 which would strengthen human trafficking and human smuggling laws. Democrats in the House said wording in the bill could cause potential legal jeopardy for churches or other West Virginians. Delegate JB Akers said the bill is not designed to prevent aid to undocumented individuals…
“I’m going to stress this again, because I know there are people watching this. I’ve had people message me, saying there’s confusion about this bill. They’re concerned that people who just want to provide help could face criminal prosecution. You will not. You will not if your intentions are only to provide help.”
