Aberdeen Man Charged in Ripken Carjacking

Baseball legend Cal Ripken Jr commenting after Aberdeen police  identified the suspect in the attempted carjacking of his  mother.  Police have charged 33 year old Jesse Bowen of Havre de Grace in the incident in which Vi Ripken was allegedly threatened by a man with a handgun. Police said the suspect ordered Mrs. Ripken to give him her car in the parking lot of a bank. Police said she scared off the man by activating her key fob panic alarm. The suspect was later identified using an ATM photo and was arrested about 2 hours later in Aberdeen. Bowen is charged with attempted armed robbery, attempted armed carjacking, possessing a dangerous weapon, and a drug count. He is being held without bond at Harford County Detention Center. Mrs. Ripken was not hurt. Police said they did not believe there was any connection with her July 2012 abduction from her home. That case remains opened.
