With one member calling it’s a sad day for the school system- the Allegany County Board of Education voted unanimously last week to approve a policy allowing the administration of the heroin-canceling drug Naloxone in public schools. The policy was recommended by the Maryland State Department of Education and the Allegany County Health Department. The action deemed necessary as a result of the growing heroin and narcotic pain pill crisis in the area. Board Attorney Gary Hanna said the policy formally approves the administration of Naloxone — sometimes referred to by the brand name Narcan — by school nurses, emergency medical technicians and physicians on the scene of an overdose…
