Canal Place Turns to State for Funding

October 17th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

With local dollars drying up, the Canal Place Preservation & Development Authority is turning to the state in an effort  to obtain future funding. An update was provided during this week’s regular monthly meeting.  During a meeting earlier this month with the District 1 legislative delegation, State Senator George Edwards suggested that Canal Place research the availability of $1.5 million in capital funds, which Edwards said may still exist in the state budget, to assist projects similar to Canal Place. The delegation also urged Canal Place officials to send a letter to the governor asking to have a line item for funding for Canal Place to be put back in the state’s general budget. Authority Chair Andy Vick said that both he and executive director Dee Dee Ritchie have begun the lobbying effort.  A meeting has been scheduled  between Canal Place officials and Eloise Foster, secretary of the Department of Budget and Management early next mont.
