WBAL Radio reports a big mystery is brewing in Maryland, and by next week, it'll be too loud to ignore. Thousands of cicadas are hatching unexpectedly and off schedule. The number of cicadas is expected to grow as the weather gets warmer this week. University of Maryland etymologist Mike Raupp said cicadas typically crawl out of the ground in cycles of 13 and 17 years, but for some reason they are way off schedule? They could be called "overachievers," showing up four years ahead of 2021's scheduled appearance. Or, they could belong to Brood VI, which was first documented in the 1900s. The cicadas will be around for an additional four to six weeks. Raupp said the noise level will be very noticeable in the very near future…
