City Council Approves Ordinances To Borrow Money For Rolling Mills Projects

December 16th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

Emotions ran high during Tuesday night’s meeting of the Cumberland Mayor and City Council as a handful of citizens urged the city officials to hold off on borrowing money to move forward with the Maryland Avenue Revitalization Project. That project calls for some 60 homes in the area known as Rolling Mill to be purchased and demolished to make way for potential commercial development. One man accused the project developers of low balling the home owners…

Others questioned the credibility of the developer, and said there has been a clear lack of transparency…

Despite those protests, the council voted unanimously on two separate ordinances allowing for the borrowing up to $2.5 million for the project.
