Clean Energy Jobs Act Goes Into Effect

October 2nd, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Among the new laws taking effect in Maryland- one that will see the state raise its renewable electricity requirement from 25 percent by 2020 to 50 percent by 2030. The legislature passed the Clean Energy Jobs Act this past session to enact this change- and although it was vetoed by Governor Larry Hogan- the veto was overridden.  The new law was raised a few concerns. A state analysis suggested it would add $1.50 per month to the average customer's bill, due to the requirement that utilities purchase renewable energy credits.  It also subsidizes trash incineration as a renewable source of power, angering environmentalists. Governor Hogan says it’s a bad law that ultimately will hit Marylanders who least can afford it with utility rate hikes…

I agree with the environmentalists. Burning trash for energy is not a good idea. It may be beneficial to some extent, but the environment will be polluted, which is not something good.
