The Allegany County Commissioners last week voted to fill a vacancy on the Salary Study Commission- allowing those individuals time to prepare prior to beginning officials meetings after the first of the year. The Commission meets every four years to set the salaries for a variety of elected county offices. It was 2014 when the most recent recommendations were approved. Those recommendations called for a hike in the sheriff’s annual salary to $70,000 starting the following year and a 3 percent increase each year after, with the salary reaching $76,491 in 2018. Raises were also recommended and approved in 2014 for orphan’s court judges. No salary increases were recommended for members of the board of education, the board of license commissioners (also known as the liquor board), the board of elections and county commissioners.
