Democrat Club Sustains Damage From Vehicle

On July 5, 2016 at 7:44 pm, officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to the intersection of Valley Street and Henderson Avenue for a motor vehicle accident.  Upon the officers arrival they observed a white in color SUV lodged between the entrance to the Democrat Club.  During an investigation into the accident, officers learned from the female driver that she was making a right hand turn form Henderson Avenue onto Valley Street when she misjudged the turn and struck the Democrat Club.  The Cumberland City Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that the building was not safe and sustained significant structural damage.  The Allegany County collapse team was dispatched to the scene to assist with securing the building.  Valley Street from Columbia Street to Henderson Avenue was closed for approximately 2 hours and later reopened after the structure was secured.  The vehicle involved in the accident was towed from the scene.  No charges were issued at the scene and no injuries were reported…
