Although tax hikes, fee increases and hot button controversial issues have been a matter of routine during the past three sessions of the Maryland General Assembly- look for a much more quiet 90 days in 2014 for one simple reason: its an election year. Tobacco, alcohol and gas taxes have all been hiked in recent years and there have been heated debates and referendum showdowns on issues ranging from immigration to same sex marriage to gambling to gun control- State Senator George Edwards says not to expect any of that come January. Edwards, a republican who represents Allegany and Garrett counties, is a 30 year veteran lawmaker and says politics play a key role in determining the agenda and themes each year. Supporting any tax hike just months before asking for a constituents vote is rare. Edwards says if anything- look for a move to cut some taxes next year…
