Fatal Accident on 219

The Cumberland Times News reports two occupants of an SUV were killed Thursday afternoon when their vehicle struck a dump truck head-on on U.S. Route 219 in Elk Lick Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police. The identifies of the victims were withheld pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the dump truck, Mark Ohler, 52, of Meyersdale, was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad following the 4:22 p.m. crash that occurred north of Oster Lane. Police said the driver of a 2017 Ford Edge and a passenger, who were both wearing lap and shoulder belts, were pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the Kenworth tri-axle dump truck, owned by Penn-Woods ENT LLC and operated by Ohler, was traveling south on Route 219 when the Ford Edge veered completely into the north lane and was struck head-on. The dump truck was then struck by a Dodge Ram 3500 pickup. Its driver, Mark Turley, 47, of Murraysville, was not injured. Ambulance and fire units from Salisbury, Meyersdale and Grantsville responded to the scene along with South Side Salvage towing service.
