First Canal Place Task Force Meeting Discusses Funding

The first meeting of a task force studying the future of Canal Place, it’s assets and the Canal Place Authority was held Thursday afternoon with some lively back and forth exchanges focusing mostly on funding. The task force was created by way of legislation approved by the Maryland General Assembly.  Owned by the state, Canal Place was established in 1993 with more than $30 million spent so far on the site. There was some dispute during the hour long session as to the total financial commitment of the state to Canal Place over the years- as well as questions pertaining to how much revenue is actually generated locally. Delegate Jason Buckel,  who chaired the meeting,  said the notion that the task force was created with the purpose of abolishing the authority or to scale back their efforts is simply not the case…
