Garrett County Man Charged With Animal Cruelty

July 31st, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The Garrett County Sheriff's Office has charged a Swanton man with six counts of Animal Cruelty, and other charges related to livestock may be filed by that county's Humane Society.

The investigation dates to June 8th, when deputies were called to assist with animal control with a livestock neglect complaint on Old Wilson Road.  They observed 25 to 30 head of cattle confined in a small area with no food or water, standing in knee deep mud and feces.  One cow had died, and another could not stand.  While there, they saw a cage in the middle of a field containing two beagle type dogs in poor health and emaciated.

65 year old William Gaither surrendered the dogs, who were eventually treated and then adopted by Hart For Animals.
