Hikers Rescue From Cliffs Near Paw Paw Tunnel

Allegany County 911 alerted several fire departments to help rescue two hikers that had become stranded near the Paw Paw Tunnel around 8 PM Saturday night.

Firemen from Oldtown, Bowman's Addition, Paw Paw, Springfield, LaVale, Bowling Green, Cresaptown and Potomac responded, along with the Allegany County Special Operations Team.

Todd Bowman, Public Information Officer with the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services said Trooper Three was also summoned from Frederick, and units were on the scene for about four hours.

The two hikers had become stuck on a cliff requiring a high angle rescue. They were rescued around 11:30 PM, and were not injured as a result of the situation.
