Gov.-elect Larry Hogan this week continued to brace residents for difficult budget decisions next year due to a growing financial shortfall in Maryland, as he announced several more appointments to his administration. The Republican said he is still reviewing budget problems he will be facing after he takes office Jan. 21, just two days before he must submit the state budget to the Maryland General Assembly. Hogan, who said he will cut spending to address a $1.2 billion hole over the next 18 months, campaigned almost entirely on economic issues. He said Maryland residents elected him to do tough budget work. Hogan said he expects the state's budget problems to be the main focus of the upcoming legislative session, which starts Jan. 14.
