The Maryland Department of Health reports flu activity in the state was high and widespread as emergency room visits for the flu increased to 11% in the last week of January. Health officials said outpatient visits for emergency departments in the state increased from 9.8% to 11% during the week ending on Feb. 1, 2020. During this week, outpatient visits to specialty doctor's offices increased to 7.3%. So far this flu season, 25 Marylanders have died from the flu, including three children.
