Missing Virginia Woman’s Body Found In Hampshire County

The Cumberland Times News reports body of a missing 85-year-old Frederick County, Virginia, woman was found Tuesday along U.S. Route 50 near Romney and her caregiver has been charged with first-degree murder. Peggy Sinclair was reported missing Saturday morning when police were called to her Grebe Road home in the Lake Frederick area, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. Her remains were discovered by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office with assistance of the Hampshire County Sheriff's Office and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. Autopsy results are being awaited from the West Virginia Medical Examiner's Office as part of the ongoing investigation. The search, which included a Maryland State Police helicopter, K-9 units, multiple law enforcement agencies, fire and rescue departments and volunteer organizations, was conducted simultaneous to an investigation that was launched by the investigation division of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

"At the same time we had a search and rescue operation underway, our investigation division began to act on some suspicions we had," aid Capt. Donald Lang of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

That investigation led to the arrest of Frances Charlene Moss Hopkins, 55, of Berryville, Virginia. She remained jailed without bond Wednesday at the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center in Winchester.

Lang said no motive has been determined. "We are continuing to work the case and looking for motives," he said.
