No Decision Yet On New FBI Headquarters

March 10th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

If Maryland is going to get the new Federal Bureau of Investigation headquarters, state officials are going to have to wait a bit longer to find out. WBAL Reports the General Services Administration announced Friday that the decision on the new FBI headquarters' site and developer would be put off until Congress provides full funding for the project.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He put out a joint statement Friday with Sen. Ben Cardin and Reps. Steny Hoyer and Anthony Brown.

“We are disappointed that today’s announcement from the General Services Administration does not include a site designation for the new, fully consolidated FBI headquarters," they said. "We recognize the urgent need to select a site, and are concerned that the continued delays will have a negative impact on the safety and security of our nation. Prince George’s County is the best choice for the FBI, and we call on Congress to fully fund the FBI relocation project, which is not only important for the economic development of Prince George’s County, but for the state of Maryland, and our nation as a whole.”

The sites being considered are in Greenbelt, Landover and across the Potomac in Springfield, Virginia
