O’Malley Files PlanMaryland With Department Of Planning

Maryland’s much anticipated and controversial long-range growth plan is finally under way decades after it was initially proposed. Governor Martin O’Malley formally filed PlanMaryland with the state’s department of planning on Monday. The plan is designed to promote future development around Maryland’s population centers and lessen the environmental impact of new projects. The Governor says PlanMaryland will tackle problems such as protecting farmland, reducing automobile dependency, concentrating jobs in existing cities and communities and minimizing residential land consumption outside existing communities. The plan aims to create a uniform strategy to prepare for the 400,000 new households and 600,000 jobs the state is projected to absorb in the next two decades…
