UPDATED: Overnight Mishap Shuts Down North Centre Street

10:20 AM UPDATE FROM CUMBERLAND PD:

At 1:48 am, on (Sunday), Cumberland City Police Officers responded to the intersection of Queen City Drive at Center Street for a report of a vehicle that collided into the street light pole. Upon arrival officers located the driver of the vehicle inside the car. Cumberland Fire/Ambulance responded to the scene and transported the operator of the vehicle to Western Maryland Regional Center. At last report, the operator of the vehicle was being prepped for surgery. Initial investigation revealed that the vehicle was travelling west on Queen City Drive at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate the turn upon reaching the Centre Street intersection. The accident reconstruction teams from both Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and the Cumberland City Police Department responded to the scene. The Cumberland Street Department also responded and advised that the stop light at the Queen City Drive and Centre Street intersection will be on steady red flash from all directions until Monday November 5, 2018. The investigation into this matter is continuing at this time. The identity of the driver will be revealed when the investigation is completed.

6:10 AM UPDATE:

Allegany County 911 tells WCBC News that one person was injured and transported to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The initial call came in at 1:47 AM and North Centre Street was closed for about three hours.

INITIAL REPORT

Allegany County 911 says that North Centre Street was shut down for two hours overnight due to a motor vehicle accident.

The mishap occurred near Knox Street at around 2:30 AM.

There is no word on the condition of the driver and occupants, yet.  Cumberland Police, Fire & EMS responded, and the Allegany County Sheriff's Department assisted with determining what happened that led to the accident.
