November 21st, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the origin and cause of a large loss fire of a 17,000 sq.ft. single-story wood frame building.  The property was under construction and expected to house Doey's House, a planned 12 room hospice facility located at 11370 Caring Pathway Lane in Hagerstown.

A passerby contacted the Washington County Emergency Communications Center at 2:45 a.m. this morning to report the blaze.  Nearly 80 firefighters responded from the Funkstown and surrounding Washington County Fire Departments to the two alarm fire.  Crews battled the wind driven flames for nearly three hours before bringing the blaze under control.

A team of Deputy State Fire Marshals are currently working to determine the origin and cause of the blaze.  Preliminary estimates for property loss is valued at $3.5 million dollars.  No injuries were reported during the incident.
