Police make car theft arrest

On Tuesday December 1, 2015, Cumberland City Police Officers arrested Benjamin Avery Jr., age 25 of Cumberland, Maryland for Motor Vehicle Theft.  At 1:55 pm, the owner of the vehicle had located it in a parking lot on West Oldtown Road.  The owner called for a tow service to tow the vehicle.  When the tow service arrived, Avery entered the vehicle, drove around the tow truck and fled the area.  Officers located the vehicle on Oak Street as Avery was observed exiting the vehicle and attempting to enter a taxi cab.  Officers approached and placed him under arrest.  Avery was transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.  He was taken to the Allegany County District Court Commissioner’s Office for a bond hearing and was held on an $8,500.00 bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.

CHARGES:  Unauthorized removal of property, Theft 1k to 10k, Driving on suspended license, Driving vehicle without owner’s consent with intent to deprive owner, Taking vehicle without owner’s consent with intent to deprive owner.

WARRANT SERVICE

On Tuesday December 1, 2015, Cumberland City Police served a Bench Warrant on Dylan Werner, age 21 of Cumberland, Maryland.  The warrant was issued as a result of Dylan failing to appear for trial on November 18, 2015 after being notified to do so.  Dylan was taken directly to the Allegany Detention Center where he was held without bond.

CHARGE:  Fail to appear.

THEFT

On Tuesday December 1, 2015 at 3:32 pm, Cumberland City Police Officers responded to a business on Park Street for a Theft.  Officers made contact with store personnel who had detained Abree Braithwaite, age 22 of Cumberland, Maryland as she was observed taking and concealing store items.  Upon conducting a search incident to arrest, officers located several different types of narcotic medications and hypodermic syringes and paraphernalia used to smoke a controlled dangerous substance (CDS).  Braithwaite was transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.  She was later taken to the Allegany County District Court Commissioner’s Office for a bond hearing and was held on a $4,500.00 dollar bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.

CHARGES:  Theft less than $100.00 dollars, Possession not Marihuana, Possession of CDS Paraphernalia.
