Police respond to assault incidents, three arrested

On October 4 at 9:46 p.m., the Cumberland Police were dispatched to a residence in the 1300 block of Virginia Avenue for a domestic assault.  Upon arrival officers contacted with all parties and began investigating the incident. Officers learned that a verbal argument ensued between the victim and Bruce Williams, age 22, of Cumberland, Maryland.  The argument escalated and the victim was assaulted by Williams. Officers observed injuries consistent with the victim’s statements.  Subsequently, Williams was arrested and charged with assault second degree and reckless endangerment.  Williams was later taken to the Allegany County Detention Center to await his Initial Appearance in District Court.

 

 

On October 5, 2019, the Cumberland Police served Arrest Warrants on Shanel Arnold, age 32, of Cumberland, Maryland, and Lavesta Nines-James, age 33, of Cumberland, Maryland.  The Warrants stemmed from an investigation into an assault that occurred on October 3, 2019.

On October 3, 2019, Cumberland Police responded to the 12000 block of Willowbrook Road for an assault complaint.  Upon arrival officer learned that the victim was at a residence on Ridgewood Terrace.  While at the residence the victim was struck from behind and knocked to the ground. Officers further learned that at some point during the altercation the victim was sliced with a sharp weapon.  During the investigation, officers were able to identify Nines-James and Arnold as suspects in the case.  Subsequently, charges were applied for in District Court and an Arrest Warrant was issued for both Nines-James and Arnold.  The Warrants charged Nines-James with assault second degree, assault first degree, and dangerous weapon with intent to injure, and Arnold was charged with assault second degree.  Both Nines-James and Arnold were provided their Initial Appearance Hearing in District Court.  At the conclusion of their hearing, Nines-James was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond, and Arnold was held on a $3000 bond.
