Having been unable to secure a permanent commuter air service to operate out of the Greater Cumberland Regional Airport- the Potomac Highlands Airport Authority is looking to get out from under a $1.8 million loan from the state of Maryland. The 40 year agreement was signed back in 1999 to help complete the construction of a commercial airline hanger in support of efforts to attract and retain a commuter air service. While there were a few service providers over the years – they were all short lived. With an annual debt service on the loan costing the PHAA more than $62,000 annually- the Authority is seeking loan forgiveness from the Maryland Aviation Administration.
