Commissioner Favors Re-Opening Downtown Mall

A number of alternatives are being considered for the downtown Cumberland Mall, and most of them call for re-opening the pedestrian mall to vehicular traffic and limited parking. The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation along with a consulting firm has put together the plans which were put on display for the public last week.  While the ultimate decision will fall to the Cumberland Mayor and City Council, Allegany County Commissioners President Jake Shade has weighed in, in support of re-opening the mall. Shade said the county hasn’t taken an official position, but he believes allowing traffic on the mall will dramatically improve the business climate…
