Traffic Accident Results In Death Of Garrett Man

A 26-year-old Accident man struck by a car Wednesday has died, according to Maryland State Police. Dennis Garlitz Jr. died Thursday, police said.

Garlitz and an 11-month-old child were flown to Conemaugh Hospital in Johnstown, Pa. after they were were struck by a vehicle while walking along U.S. 219 late Wednesday afternoon, according to Maryland State Police. The child was released from the hospital Wednesday, police said.

Garlitz and the child were injured just before 5 p.m., when they were struck by a 2004 Chevy Corvette operated by Deloris Edgar of McHenry, according to Tfc. J.R. Rodeheaver.

Police said a trooper was made aware of the accident when he was flagged down by a citizen on Route 219 in the area of Industrial Park Road. The trooper then discovered the accident that occurred as Garlitz was walking along 219 and pushing the stroller. Edgar was traveling southbound at the time.

Garlitz was flown by Maryland State Police medevac Trooper 5 to the hospital and the child was flown there by STAT helicopter, police said.

The accident remains under investigation.

Friendsville, Deep Creek, Accident and Bittinger volunteer fire departments also responded to the scene.
