A 5% tuition increase is planned for Allegany College of Maryland to help offset a declining student population. Allegany College President Dr Cynthia Bambara along with David Dewitt, vice-president of Finance and Administation, outlined the proposed FY 2017 budget to the County Commissioners during Thursday’s afternoon budget hearings. DeWitt told the commissioners that the best available data shows that the college can expect about a 3% enrollment decrease in the coming year. As a result, a tution hike was deemed necessary to help offset the loss of revenue. DeWitt added that faculty and staff will be getting a 2% salary increase, saying that compenstation increases have been been relatively slight for many years for Allegany College employees. The college will receive only a minor increase in state dollars for FY ’17 and the administration is not requesting additional county funds.
