Valentine Comments on Area Workforce

According to Allegany County Commissioner Bill Valentine, a job-ready work force is seriously  lacking in the area- and he hopes a state funded program may begin to address the problem. Valentine noted that  at a recent job fair, 27 of 53 participants left after they were told a drug test would be part of the application process. Of the 26 that remained, 17 came up with a dirty urinalysis, leaving only 9 qualified applicants. In addition, many companies can’t find employees possessing the necessary skills  for the jobs that are available.  Valentine says the county wants to obtain information from local businesses to determine what specifically they are looking for in a work force…
