Valentine Says Opportunity Scholarship Goals Being Achieved

In 2014, the Allegany County commissioners established the Allegany County Opportunity Scholarship, and Commissioner Bill Valentine says there is now enough data available to show that the goals are being achieved. The program is funded by revenue generated from the Rocky Gap Casino Resort and available to county residents attending FSU or Allegany College of Maryland who have lived in the county for at least three years. Valentine says the goal was not only to provide educational opportunities for local students, but also to encourage them to remain in the area upon graduation.  He says of the first group graduating having utilized the scholarship- 86% are still in the area…
