Allegany County Commissioners President Bill Valentine tells WCBC News that public comments from board of education officials pertaining to local funding for the new Allegany High School were not entirely accurate. The architects of the school as well as Superintendent David Cox, school board members and facilities director Vince Montana told the Cumberland Rotary Club Tuesday that the county’s contribution was $9.5 million dollars. Valentine disputed that number and said there are other financial considerations provided by the county that were not discussed. He says in addition to a $9.2 million commitment made in 2012, the commissioners provided one million dollars to go toward demolition of the former Sacred Heart facilities. Those funds, coupled with the board’s contribution as well as $500,000 in program open space funds for new athletic fields brings the local commitment to $12.7 million. At that meeting it was suggested that the board is still about five million dollars short for the new school project. Valentine said had the school board followed the state’s formula for the new high school- money would not be an issue…
