A vehicle slammed into the front of the Fort Ashby post office on state Route 28 just before noon Wednesday, prompting alert of the Allegany County Collapse Team. The Cumberland Times News reports the Fort Ashby, Short Gap and Fountain volunteer fire departments responded to the scene on the initial alert from the Mineral County 911 Center.

Preliminary reports from the scene indicated the driver had safely exited the vehicle that reportedly struck the front of the brick post office building. Several windows were reportedly broken, as was a support post.

The driver was being transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Units were alerted by emergency centers in Mineral and Allegany counties.
