Keyser library hoping for funding boost

May 23rd, 2015 by WCBC Radio

The Mineral Tribune reports, that the Mineral County Board of Education will consider giving a little extra to the Keyser-Mineral County Library when they hold a special meeting on budget and finance next week. Library director Connie Sutton had spoken with the board members during their April 21 meeting, asking them to consider increasing their financial support of the county library system. The library's local funding depends upon contributions from the City of Keyser, Mineral County Commission and Mineral County Board of Education, and the sum of that must be sufficient to match the funding that comes from the state level. Each year for the past several years, Sutton has been forced to ask for increases from all three entities in order to keep the libraries in operation at the current staffing and operational levels. Burlington and Fort Ashby libraries in particular work very closely with the schools in those communities, and so the board has traditionally contributed $13,000 each year to the library system.
