The top priority for county and municipal officials in Maryland is the restoration of highway user revenues used to build local roads, and some inroads were made during the first General Assembly Session presided over by Governor Larry Hogan. Restoring those funds topped the agenda of the Allegany County Commissioners and other local officials Thursday during a meeting with Maryland’s Secretary of Transportation Pete Rahn. Cuts in those funds over the past few years have costs counties and cities millions of dollars for highway maintenance and other road projects. Secretary Rahn, during a one hour session at the county office complex, said the administration is looking for ways to restore highway user funding through the budget process rather than through legislative action. The plan now in place would incrementally restore the lost funds over the next eight years. Rahn tells WCBC News it’s a concern for every county and town in the state…
