The Cumberland Times News reports a Keyser man was arrested Tuesday evening after he allegedly stabbed his father
in the abdomen, according to the Keyser Police Department. The 61-year-old victim was taken to the Western
Maryland Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery. No information was available on his condition.
The victim was treated following the incident that occurred in the first block of Sharpless Avenue and after he walked to a neighbor’s residence a block away on North Water Street. Keyser EMS personnel treated the victim before he
was flown to the hospital by Maryland State Police Trooper 5 helicopter. The incident occurred at about 6 p.m.
Police arrested Gregory Kent Rotruck II, 32, of Keyser, who was identified as the victim’s son. on
charges of attempted murder and malicious wounding/unlawful assault. Rotruck was taken into custody at the Sharpless Avenue location despite resisting arrest. At the police station, Rotruck, who was handcuffed, allegedly became combative again and broke a door jamb that he used to strike a police communications officer who suffered a laceration to the face.
The injured dispatcher was treated at Potomac Valley Hospital and released. Rotruck also allegedly injured an officer at the police station but he did not require medical treatment. Following the arrest, Rotruck was jailed at the Potomac Highlands Regional Jal where he remained in custody late Wednesday morning awaiting his initial court appearance before a Mineral County magistrate.
