The second annual River and Rails Festival is this coming weekend. The free two-day event is scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Canal Place executive director Dee Dee Ritchie said that the festival serves two purposes: to provide a family friendly event for residents and tourists alike; and to raise awareness of plans for the River Park at Canal Place project. Canal Place officials have been moving forward with plans for a river park at the confluence of the North Branch of the Potomac River and Wills Creek. The proposed park will have kayak and canoe access, whitewater features, a walking trail and viewing area.
