ACPS receives donation

September 13th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

Allegany County Public Schools received a donation from a Fort Hill High School alumnus through the T. Rowe Price Program for Charitable Giving and used the funds to expand Active Learning Labs (ALL) into the high school environment. The money, earmarked for science classrooms, was used to implement the ALL furniture and technology into six of the science labs at Fort Hill.  Students in those newly remodeled 21st Century classrooms will now have the opportunity to learn in a collaborative manner by way of the Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR) framework and Universal Design for Learning (UDL). These methods meet the needs of the Next Generation Science Standards adopted by the state of Maryland. According to the Supervisor of Science for ACPS, Eric VanSlyke, "On behalf of Fort Hill High School and the Allegany County Public School System, I would like to thank the T. Rowe Price Charitable Giving program and the Fort Hill alumnus for their generous contribution that will greatly enhance science teaching and learning for science students at Fort Hill."
