AFSCME Plans Caravan Protest of Maryland Budget Cuts

June 29th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

AFSCME has released plans to protest cus to the Maryland budget this week.  The union released the following statement:

Over 65 cars plan to caravan through downtown Baltimore to protest proposed cuts being voted on at the Board of Public Works meeting on Wednesday, July 1st. The Hogan Administration is looking for reductions totaling $1.45 billion despite an unclear economic future and a rainy-day fund that still sits at close to $1 billion dollars.

Beginning in 2014, Governor Hogan has underfunded and systematically understaffed Maryland’s state agencies. Responding to the multiple personal, health and financial crises residents are experiencing has stretched state services dangerously thin. During the pandemic, there has been a 3000% increase in applications for unemployment and the Department of Labor has 30% less staff then when Governor Hogan came into office.

Cutting frontline employees during this unprecedented time of crisis is unacceptable. Cutting wages and pensions contributions along with increasing healthcare costs to the essential public employees most at risk, and already getting sick from COVID-19 is malicious on the part of the administration. That's why during the caravan AFSCME Maryland will be awarding Governor Hogan the “Worst Boss Ever Award”. We’re calling on the Board to postpone action until the State has sat down and mutually negotiated an agreement with AFSCME.

I’m sure the state of Maryland will keep all the people with the big salaries and the big offices. And get rid of people that actually do the work

The WCBC writer does not seem to use even the spellchecking program at work in this comment box though he clearly needs it and the union thug thinks the word caravan is a verb. It is likely they are both products of unionized schools.
