After Some Debate BoE Approves Second Reading Of Legal Services Bill

March 5th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Board of Education this week approved a second reading of its Legal Services Policy- but it was not without some debate. Board President Tammy Fraley, vice president Deb Frank and member Ed Root voted in favor of the policy, member David Bohn was against it and member Robert Farrell abstained. After some concerns were expressed about the original draft presented in December- the board voted to return it  to the policy committee for some tweaking.  One sticking point that remains for Dr Bohn is the requirement that board members contact the superintendent before they request legal assistance. He also has objections with individual board members not being permitted to consult a board attorney without first having had some communication with the other board members…

Board member Root noted that the reason for that caveat in the policy is because the board attorney does not work for an individual board member- but rather works at the direction of the superintendent

Farrell abstains, that’s a first. The bigger issue is the major cost increase of legal services this bird is lying compared to their old attorney. Maybe a media outlet could do their job and report
