The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation, in a press release issued Friday, said that Allegany County was a finalist for the Clorox manufacturing facility that is how targeted for Martinsburg. The project, which was announced by the company Thursday, is expected to result in a $190 million economic investment and 100 jobs. The CEDC worked diligently since the May of last year to entice the company to locate in Allegany County- however in the end- according to the release, the local team could not overcome the logistical advantages that a north/south corridor such as Interstate 81 provided to the Clorox Company.

So the north/south corridor was the fatal factor? That should be noted and worked on by our legislative body instead of being ignored. This has always been a factor in our local area, but little is done to improve the corridor.

There are not enough people who can pass a drug test or are willing to work a consistent 40 hours per week to fill those jobs. The water park in the Potomac that nobody will go to should revitalize the economy.

It only took 25 years from start to finish for Interstate 68 with not nearly the regulations they have now so maybe if they start now this can be done in time for our grandchildren or great-grandchildren I’m figuring about 50 years to completion

Why would they ever put a CLOROX Plant here in Allegany County??? We have few to none “White Collar Jobs so no reason to have a bleach factory here.

Steve, I stand corrected. Maybe Western Maryland really does need a CLOROX Plant. I forgot about the 8 million dollar rebuild of downtown. It’s going to have a lot of germs digging up those old utility lines, especially the sewer and water lines. We could of used the bleach to kill the germs. Our loss!
