Arrests at Homecoming

November 3rd, 2019 by WCBC Radio

On November 2, 2019, Cumberland Police Officers were working an event at Greenway Avenue Stadium.  While monitoring the crowd, officers observed a disturbance between several individuals.  Officers separated the individuals and began investigating the cause of the disturbance.  Officers were advised by officials at the event that they wanted all parties involved to leave the event and the property. While officers were trying to identify everyone involved, a subject later identified as Carson Robinette, age 19 of Cumberland, Maryland refused to cooperate.  Subsequently, Robinette was placed under arrest for obstructing and hindering and disorderly conduct.  As officers continued addressing other subjects in the disturbance, another individual involved in the original disturbance identified as Corey Smith, age 23 of Cumberland was instructed to leave the property.  After attempts to get Smith to leave the property failed, he was arrested for trespassing.  Robinette was later provided an Initial Appearance in District Court and released on his own recognizance.  Smith was issued a Criminal Citation and released pending trial in District Court.

They need to start putting the Hatfields on one side and the McCoys on the other.

Common sense and common courtesy aren’t taught in the Cumberland school system.
It rolls downhill from the Board of Education.

Usually agree with a lot of what Mac has to say. Common sense and courtesy should be taught at home. It should not be the schools responsibility to lay the foundation, the school should build on what the parents instill at home. Forget teaching common sense, lets legislate it. yeah right, LOL, LOL, LOL.

It’s a joint effort. Starts in the home and should be reaffirmed in the school. Unfortunately school districts across the country seem to have lost focus in so far as setting priorities. In fact more often than not, the schools seem to establish policies & curriculum which unwittingly undermine parenting, as if it weren’t essential in the raising of children. They seem to operate under the premise that only the state is capable of establishing moral guide lines for child rearing. Of course not every family is a ” Leave It To Beaver ” in microcosm either. So I’ll end as I started, it’s a joint effort.

Having met Carson and his family, I am fully confident he was provoked. He is good kid/young man, and his parents are excellent people. It’s unfortunate that people are so quick to judge and trash an entire family with absolutely no information.

I’m not sure anyone here is trashing anyone. ( maybe the 1st. post ? ) I know that my post dealt more with government over reach in the area of education & circumventing parenting. There is no straight path to raising successful children, it is the end result that truly counts. I, as a single parent raised two successful kids, 4.0 GPA’s. Great careers, grand kids, very happy with the results. They’re in their thirties now and doing quite well. They always find time to check on their Dad. They aren’t as generous with their mother, I had nothing to do with that, our lives are what they are based upon the choices we make. In as far the topic here is concerned, I view it as nothing more than a hiccup, with no far reaching liabilities, lesson learned.

Seems Bob has a point. People do seem to take offence pretty quickly.

It would be a wonderful world if children learned courtesy and respect at home but all too often they aren’t treated that way themselves so how can they be expected to treat others any differently. Someone must expend the effort to at least try to help them to deal reasonably with others. Be it the school, church, the boy scouts, whoever.
I know that’s a simplistic mindset but it might be a start.
