When Maryland Superintendent of Schools Karen Salmon announced Wednesday that schools would be closed for the remainder of this academic year- she concluded her comments by noting that the State Board of Education would be providing guidance to local school systems regarding long-term distance learning programs. The biggest problem with distance learning is that it CANNOT be provided to All the students that live in our outlying communities’ because, it seems, no-one gives a hoot about making high speed (and reliable) internet service available to ALL our county’s residents. This fact leaves us with the reality that all our citizens are Not treated equally or afforded the same advantages as our urban dwellers. This does not only affect a lot of our students. It, also, can make it impossible for many workers to work from home. The FCC, communication companies, our local, state, and federal politicians, and Anyone else that has decision making abilities about this ongoing problem NEED to share the blame, and shame, for its existence. I say that until Someone, Anyone, corrects this unequal treatment of non-urban dwellers all the previously mentioned organizations and people should be ashamed of themselves for doing Nothing to effectively correct this injustice.

What, exactly, does “awaiting moderation” mean? While I certainly understand that there are times that commenters’ language may need to be dealt with, I certainly hope that comments are not rejected for print just because your media organization does not agree with it.
