Bean sworn in as District Court Judge

Veteran prosecutor Erich Michael Bean was officially sworn in as judge for the Allegany County District Court in ceremonies Friday afternoon. Bean was selected November 1st  by Governor Larry Hogan to fill the seat following the mandatory retirement of Judge Edward A. Malloy Jr. at age 70. Bean has served as a prosecutor his entire career, including the last nine years with the Allegany County Office of State's Attorney. In July, eight local attorneys submitted applications for appointment and interviews by the Trial Courts Nominating Committee, which made its recommendations to Hogan. Bean and candidates

    Good luck to him – an additional plus is we can offer people who come to ride the “steam” locomotive an opportunity to sit in on the real “Judge Bean’s” courtroom – minus the hangings of course, but hey the railroad does not have a steam engine either, so it is consistent.

    Roy Bean only sentenced two people to hang, one escaped and I believe the other was granted a reprieve by performing some type of manual labor for the betterment of the community. In fact Roy Bean usually opted for a fine, what ever the defendant happen to have on his person. Isaac Parker, over in Ft. Smith on the other hand presided over 79 hangings.
