Following a closed door session that lasted a little more than an hour Tuesday afternoon- the Allegany County Board of Education issued a two sentence update on the search for an interim superintendent. That release simply stated that interviews will be conducted next week with the hope being that a candidate is chosen and approved by the state superintendent by July 31^st.  As last week’s deadline passed, the  board had received a total of six applications for the position,  which is being vacated by Dr David Cox who was offered and accepted a job heading up the Sullivan County Tennessee school system beginning August 1^st.  During the brief public portion of Tuesday’s session- WCBC  News asked if the names of the six candidates would be released. Board attorney Mike Llewellyn- noting that it is a personnel matter- said the identities of those applying will not be made public…

 

Board sources have confirmed to WCBC News that two of the original six applicants have since withdrawn their names from consideration- both from outside the area- and one of those pulling out after deeming the compensation package to be inadequate. Llewellyn would not confirm that aspect of the story either- once again declining to comment…

Among those known to have submitted applications: Dr Kim Kalbaugh, Chief Academic Officer; and Jeff Blank, Chief Administrative Officer.
