The Allegany County Board of Educatoin Monday afternoon approved returning to interscholastic athletics under a calendar which would include a return to practice on October 7, and a return to competition the week of October 27.
The motion was made by Dr. David Bohn, and seconded by Deb Frank. Board members said they will continue working dilligently to get students back to the classroom as soon as possible, noting there would be criticism that officials were putting athletics ahead of academics.
The vote was unanimous.
There would be a limitation on attendance of 50% capacity, or 250 for an outdoor venue, or 100 for an indoor setting, whichever is less.
Scheduling will be the next challenge, and Athletic Administrator Tracy Leonard mentioned that ACPS would be working with Garrett County on that issue.
