BREAKING: American Woodmark Reopens Local Facility

April 2nd, 2020 by WCBC Radio

American Woodmark announced on its Facebook page that it would be reopening its plant on McMullen Highway in Barton this evening.

"The Allegany Plant will resume normal operations starting tonight. Announcements will be made via radio as previously communicated and attempts will be made to contact team members. Thank you all for your patience and understanding during this time!"

District 1C Delegate Mike McKay told WCBC's Dave Norman Thursday morning that officials planned on meeting on the issue Thursday afternoon.

Thank god the kitchen cabinet shortage will be averted – we can all wear them for hats instead of masks.

      > So should people not have a new Kitchen Cabinet and instead put all the plates on a kitchen table.

        > Here’s a pro tip. Don’t rip out the old cabinets before getting new ones. That way you can wait this out.

So, we never received an explanation why the Plant was shutdown in the first place? Was any of the 3 people (+ 1 in Mineral County) that tested positive for Covid-19 working there?

      > No. You wouldn’t understand if the truth came out where they did work. This shut down has become out of control.

          > Closures are no longer out of concern. It is based upon insane officials and their radical terrorist supporters. People who will likely to riot will be the average American who have had enough. Besides why don’t you see who is being laid off now.

Glad they are taking this as pandemic seriously and valuing the health of our community members (sarcasm).

Perhaps they will start making coffins instead of kitchen cabinets to donate to their employees. That’s the only way I’d consider them even a fraction of being essential.

What AW is doing is definitely counterproductive to the lives and health of the people in our community.

Why isn’t Mr Wellberg asking how people who have been laid off can continue to have food and shelter? Isn’t that a better approach than asking them to work during an international pandemic, one that our president is saying could cost hundred of thousands of American lives?

What kind of American wants his neighbors to die?

        > I’ll stay with Mark. You do what you believe is right Mr. Wellberg. Of course, even the president is telling you that you are either going to catch this, or worse still, catch it and give it to a family member who will die.

Is partisan politics so important to you that you put it in front of your family and neighbor’s health? Man, that’s harsh.

Now the county owes some money to the affected workers and the company. I think $600 per person and $45k to the company

      > Really? The county owes money to the affected workers? Isn’t that overly generous unemployment they are getting from the federal government enough? Why doesn’t the county owe you money, Joe? I mean, heck, you certainly make it sound like your life has been ruined.

And then, I have to wonder why the county owes American Woodmark $45,000 when maybe $44,500 would cover their expenses. Heck, since you pay into the county (or maybe you are just keen on spending the money we pay into the county) why not just round it up to a trillion dollars?

          > Yes, about that – the shutdown is legal.

Where do you get your information? You honestly think the governor doesn’t have the authority to order shutdowns during a public health crisis? The federal government has declared Maryland a disaster zone. Don’t you understand what that means?

            > No one should obey a unlawful order Ken. All because their isn’t a a big population growth in Allegany County doesn’t mean Kitchen Cabinets and blinds are not in demand. Besides people need an Oil Change but many places doing Oil Change are closed
