BREAKING: Inmate Murdered At WCI

September 2nd, 2018 by WCBC Radio

Maryland State Police are investigating the death of a Western Correctional Institution inmate early this morning as a homicide.

The 23-year-old inmate, whose name is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin, was found unresponsive in his cell at about 1:20 a.m. His cell mate is being questioned in the death, which appeared to be caused by blunt force trauma.

The dead inmate was three years into an 18-year sentence for rape. The suspect is five years into a 25-year sentence for assault.

Correctional officers found the unresponsive inmate in his cell and attempted to revive him. Several officers performed CPR, employed an ambu breathing bag and administered shocks with an AED.

The Cumberland City Ambulance Service arrived and pronounced the inmate dead.

As with all inmate homicides in state prisons, Maryland State Police will conduct the investigation and handle further questions about the incident.
