Buckel Blasts Media Report, Frustrated on Leaks in Local Government

May 10th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Delegate Jason Buckel, during Thursday’s meeting of the Allegany County Commissioners blasted a media report and expressed frustration with leaks he believes are coming from local government. The story in question ran on WCBC and concerned an economic development trip tentatively scheduled for next week.  WCBC reported that an action item on that county agenda called for authorization for Buckel to attend the 2019 International Council of Shopping Centers Retail Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.  A source told WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” that the estimated cost for Buckel and one other individual could be around $10,000.  Prior to the vote, Buckel addressed the commissioners asking they remove the item from the agenda- seemingly agitated by both the news report and the source of the information…

Buckel left the meeting immediately after making his comments. Commissioners President Jake Shade was also clearly frustrated- however his frustration was more directed at the difficulties that county has been experiencing in developing and implementing a solid economic development plan. He added that Buckel would be an excellent choice to represent the county as the convention…

Ultimately, despite the request from Buckel to remove the item from the agenda, the commissioners vote 2-1 to approve it. Commissioner Creade Brodie Jr was the dissenting vote suggesting that other area developers  will be attending the convention and can serve  the county’s interests…

Delegate Buckel was extended an invitation to appear on the Dave Norman Show today to discuss the situation.

I’ll say it again, what a colossal waste of time and money.
Downtown Cumberland is hoping to build a shiny new shopping area downtown, which isn’t needed and that many don’t want, while there’s a half empty mall in LaVale that is slowly decomposing back into the hill it sits on.
$10K to be spent on what is now just a wish but no one seems to care about reinvigorating something actually usable right now.
Lastly, Mr. Delegate, you can get a great steak at Delmonico’s in the Venetian. Add the creamed corn, it’s delicious.

      > Thanks to Commisioner Creade Brodie Jr. for being the fiscally responsible conscience of Allegany county.
Why would Delegate Buckel need to attend a Retail convention? Are plans so far along with the Rolling Mill project that they are shopping for shelving and light fixtures?
Also,Mr. Delegate Buckel there is a restuarant in the Miracle Mile shops called Romania Mia where they serve a great plate of noodles and gravy, you know what I’m saying.

In the United States, governments are not supposed to implement economic plans as done in the old USSR; they are supposed to foster conditions conducive to the citizens starting businesses on their own. If yokel government meddling helped economic activity, Cumberland would be on the cover of Forbes. The local problem is the locals, few of whom could even pass a drugs test, as noted repeatedly here by a previous commissioner. Generations of illegitimacy, among other matters, take a toll on what they now call human capital.

      > Bob, the locals are the exact labor pool that the local business owners wish for. The employee is given a 28 hour work week, to guarantee no overtime, offered no benefits or their share of the cost is so high that they can’t afford them. That way the employer can hire more workers to cover all shifts at minimum expense. And minimum is the important word here as in wages. Raising the minimum wage is anathema around here. No business owner, or local elected leader for that matter, want to see a lowly shift worker improve their life at the cost of business profit.

The county needs an aggressive economic development. Creade Brodie is out of touch. They write checks bigger than $1,700 everyday before breakfast is over.

Buckel is the delegate. Why didn’t shade go or caporale. They can make time since they are actually self employed and why on earth is Buckel even being asked to go. 2. Buckel is an attorney who might of had a case he is required to attend. 3. Why is it 10k and is cheaper if made months in advance. This was the most stupid idea to include someone without checking with them 1st especially since they are a lawyer whose services are required in Court. Also these 3 aren’t multi millionaires. I can see why Brodie was mad about this.

Lastly who would make a better appearance. Yes Shade and Brandon Butler. If Shade did his research on his power it permits him to represent the County even at some convention he suddenly found on the internet. Did Shade have any time on his hands.
