Cardin Says Dropping Charges Against Flynn Damages U.S. Credibility and the Rule of Law

May 8th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of Justice dropping criminal charges against former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who pled guilty in 2017 to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

“Almost exactly three years ago, I expressed alarm that the president of the United States would have asked the director of the FBI to drop the case against former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. Flynn admitted twice to lying to the FBI about his working relationship with the Russians and, according to President Trump’s own tweets, was fired for lying to the Vice President and President. It is incomprehensible that Attorney General Barr does not understand how damaging it is to the credibility of the Department of Justice and to the rule of law in this country that he has dropped criminal charges against Flynn. His actions make it much more difficult for the United States to encourage other countries to follow legitimate criminal proceedings rather than cronyism.

“Donald Trump is more concerned about finding a way to get his friends off the hook for criminal wrongdoing than following his oath to uphold the Constitution and take care the laws are faithfully executed. The Justice Department Inspector General should immediately launch an investigation into improper interference in this investigation by the White House Justice Department leaders, and Congress should conduct vigorous oversight of the Administration’s misconduct.”

Any right thinking responsible adult will find this situation to be the ultimate absurdity.
Flynn admitted his guilt in court but if you’re a friend of Trump you can get away with almost anything.
This will come back to haunt him at election time.

It’s just the Trump/Barr way to pardon Flynn without having to actually pardon him outright. He’s letting the syncophant Barr do his dirty work. Flynn pled guilty – twice in open court. Why would he do that if he wasn’t guilty? This opens the door to anyone who pled guilt to retract their plea. It’s a bad precedent. Manafort and Stone are next. Their turn for exoneration is coming up.

Hate to say it but Cardin is a hack. They purposefully mislead Flynn and and concocted this whole thing to hurt the opposition. The FBI was ready to drop the case, but changed their mind. I wish Cardin cared 1% about that.

Comey and his crew spent a great deal of our money on this frame up and it is all wasted just because of a rare, freak justice eruption at the DOJ.

One thing you can count on from our democratic leaders, if Trump did it it’s wrong and they want to waste our money investigating him. Didn’t they learn anything from this impeachment thing? Do they want to investigate Biden allegations or it Obama knew about the FISA lying? I am not so stupid as to believe that everything a Republican does is right and anything that a Democratic does is wrong, so I guess that makes me smarter than Cardin.

Obviously you watch Fox News and listen to Rush Limbaugh Dave. No disrespect intended but it would be wise for you to seek out legit news sources. And not on TV. There are many fine, intelligent investigative reporters who know what their talking about unlike Hannity and Ingraham.

Let’s analyze what I said, did not our congress investigate Trump for about two years? Did they spend millions of our dollars doing that?Could they come up with a conviction in the Senate? Is Biden accused of sexual misconduct? Are any of the people who wanted Brett Kavanaugh disqualified calling for Biden to be investigated? Was not the call always “what did he know and when did he know it”? Did not President Obama LIE to the nation about parts of the affordable health care act? Was Fox News and Rush Limbaugh the only source of this information? If that was I only source of information and you don’t listen to them how did you knew what I was talking about. No disrespect (and I mean that) I really do know the difference between option (Limbaugh, Hannity and Ingraham) but you surely don’t mean MSNBC, Yahoo News, or NPR are REAL news? What do you suggest? You did read the last sentence I wrote didn’t you?

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how we have difficulty keeping our republic, as Franklin cautioned us.

Facts are no longer relevant, discourse has been reduced to insults, and even the post office that Franklin began is under attack.

Did the president do anything wrong? Did Biden do anything wrong, Did Obama do anyhting wrong? In a just society, if any of the previously mentioned people had committed crimes, we would all come together and demand justice. Now, it’s justice for their guy and my guy gets a pass.
