Carmen Jackson Retires as President of Local NAACP, New Officers Announced

January 21st, 2021 by WCBC Radio

NAACP Branch 7007 would like to announce the retirement of President Carmen Jackson. Ms. Jackson is a product of the civil rights era having grown up with an activist as a mother and Dr. King as a family friend, Jackson says she used the tools learned from marching with King to lead this branch toward civil and social equality for the Allegany area. Since becoming president of the NAACP, she has worked toward building strong relationships with both Frostburg State University, Allegany College of Maryland, and the local governments. She is also the driving force behind the newly established community relations board.

Tifani J. Fisher has been newly appointed president of our branch of the NAACP.  Fisher was formerly vice president and has longstanding ties to the organization from childhood. Tifani spent time in 2020 working on the Carver initiative and being one of the lead organizers for the 'Safe not Silent' and 'She Matters' marches. A lifelong resident Allegany County, Tifani takes great pride being the 7th generation of her family to start 'good trouble' in this community.

Ian Robinson has been appointed Vice President. Mr. Robinson is a local musician and activist.  Marie Weddle is stepping in as Secretary for the Branch. She moved to Allegany County with her family 10 years ago. In 2020 Marie helped with the organization of the NAACP's 'Safe Not Silent' and 'She Matters' marches and served as an election observer for the Branch during the General Election. Evan West will continue as our Treasurer. Mr. West is a union organizer and has been active in social justice efforts for many years.
